Description
Varieties
White Grenache (100%)
Terroir
The grapes come from 25-45 year old vines grown at 410m in our Mas de Cabrera vineyards in Gandesa. The younger vines are in the bottom of the valley, and the older vines on side terraces. The grapes were picked earlier than usual on the 28th August, resulting in a nice range of freshness and ripeness between the two sites.
Production
The grapes were hand-picked then chilled to 2°C before sorting and destemming / crushing followed by a gentle pressing. After racking, the must was split into a mix of stainless and concrete tanks and oak foudres for fermentation at 16°C. The resulting wines were blended and lightly filtered before bottling.
Analysis
– Alcohol content: 14%
– Total acidity: 4.9 g/l as Tartaric
– Volatile acidity: 0.41 g/l
– Residual sugar: 0.9 g/l
Tasting Notes
The wine shows citrus, pear and stone fruit on the nose with a persistent creamy palate, a mineral core and long clean finish.
Food Pairing
As well as the traditional ‘roast chicken’ and rich cream-based sauces with meat or pasta, this wine pairs well with vegetarian foods like nut roast or grilled mushrooms. It also complements delicate fish dishes like turbot or sole in lemon and butter, and grilled squid.
Serving Suggestions
The wine is ideally served at 12-14°C.
Phil Banks (verified owner) –
White grenache is so under-appreciated. This is a really good example. Not as oaky as many I’ve tried. Good acidity and minerality. A step up on the 2016.
