Giró del Gorner
The Giró family have been tending their own vineyards in El Gorner in Penedes for more than 300 years. Their belief is that the quality of a wine is born from the vine. As well as being growers for many of the big cava producers, they make their own wines, tightly controlling all the processes, from choosing which grape variety to plant, and deciding the exact time of the harvest. The business is now run the the children of Gabriel Sr, and they have the a fully equipped modern winery for the production of wine which is made in small quantities from only the best grapes of the harvest.
Gabriel Jr is an agricultural engineer and winemaker, like his father, and is technical director of the winery. He has always been involved in all tasks of the vineyards and winery, working in the estate or in the cellar. Oscar is a mechanical engineer by training and, as with Gabriel, since childhood has always helped on the estate and the cellar. Marta is a graduate in Business Administration and Advertising and Public Relations. After working for over 10 years in different companies and living in different countries, she returned to the family business to take charge of the commercial activities.
The vineyards are spread over 48 hectares, divided into 29 plots, each with their own names: Aspisi, Secalló, Cireres, Romanina, Serdalla, etc… Some of them more than 50 years where typical Penedès varieties predominate: Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada. We have also planted foreign varieties that have adapted well to our terroir such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Since 2018 the vineyards have been managed organically.
